OpenID help

NOTE: If you are already logged in and you want to add an OpenID to your existing account, you can Manage your OpenID identities.

Instead of using an account name and password, to log in or to register using OpenID:

  1. In the “User login” panel on the left, select the link that reads “Log in using OpenID*.
  2. Enter your OpenID. (You may enter your email address if it ends in gmail.com, yahoo.com or aol.com, although an actual OpenID is a website URL.)
  3. After you press the “Log in” button, this website will contact the authenticating website for authorization. We use encrypted SSL connections between our site and the authenticating site. That website might ask you to allow it to send us the ID and email address that you use there. (We require your email address for registration.)
  4. Once the authenticating website confirms your identity, we will display the message “OpenID login successful (Local username is ‘username’)”, where “username” is your ID on this site.
  5. Record your local username! If sometime later you are unable to log in using OpenID, you can log in here with the local username. (In that situation, you would need to select “Request new password” to set a password at this site).

*If after selecting Log in using OpenID” you change your mind and you want to register or log in  here with your local username and password, select the link that reads Cancel OpenID login”.
