Do not attempt this ride

Here’s a list of just a few reasons that you should not attempt the Tour das Hugel:

  • The Tour das Hugel is not an organized or supported ride.
    • Other than the supporters that we know of and mention on this website that are supporting riders and, perhaps, your own personal support, your are on your own and you ride at your own risk.
    • You will need to find your own rest rooms, food and water.
    • You will need to make your own repairs or, if you cannot make repairs to get you going again, you will need to find your own transportation.
    • There are no special emergency services for this ride. (In case of a medical emergency, you should call 911.)
  • You could be injured without colliding with anything.
    • The stress on your joints, muscles and tendons, especially during steep climbs, could cause permanent injury.
  • You could be injured or killed by colliding with something.
    • This route includes roads where there are multi-ton motor vehicles, often at speeds exceeding the legal limit of 65 mph.
      • Every year or two a cyclist is killed on Loop 360 by collision with a motor vehicle.
    • Along this route there are likely to be cyclists who are not experienced riding with other cyclists. Regardless of your own experience, anyone could collide with you and cause you to lose control.
    • Although the legend of this ride is the climbing, on the descents you can easily reach speeds well over 45 mph.
      • A fall at any speed can be deadly, but you’re more likely to die at higher speeds.
      • Your bicycle might start to shudder and shake at high speeds, causing you to lose control.
  • You could suffer traumatic or fatal internal injury.
    • The ascents on this ride are extremely stressful on the human body. The stress on your cardiovascular and pulmonary systems could lead you to suffer a heart attack, stroke or other serious and critical medical event.
  • Your property could become permanently damaged.
    • As with the risk of personal physical injury — and for many of the same reasons — your bicycle and other equipment and clothing could become damaged or destroyed.
There are more dangers than these. We invite your comments below to share other reasons that people should not ride the Tour das Hugel.
